Intertextuality!

I really, really love this concept, I think it is fantastic!

But what is it you ask!? well, you should know! you're definitely guilty of it and so am I and everyone else. But in case you are clueless then i'll let my good mate Julia explain..

‘The term intertextuality denotes [the] transposition of one (or several) sign system(s) into another’ Julia Kristeva, ‘Revolution in Poetic Language’ (1974).

So there you go! easy right?

well no apparently not, by the way if you didn't get what intertextuality was yet. It is basically a posh way of saying what something was inspired or influenced by. Y'know things like, homages, in jokes, references etc. All intertextual. EVERYTHING.

nothing is original anymore, and its true! nothing is.

so this was the easy part, it gets more complicated when we see the two different types of intertextuality..

concious- the author knows they are referencing something
sub-concious: they dont!

but anyway rather than try and explain this anymore because I think ive done pretty well in so few words to tell you what it is, I will leave you with four words which summarise interextuality in a very literal sense.

FAMILY GUY AND SPACED.

bye! x
